Perth Airport today welcomed the first flight of Qatar Airways into Perth, which landed at 4.55pm and joins 16 other international airlines operating at Perth Airport.

The airline has commenced flights between Perth and Dohar, the capital of Qatar located in the Middle East, three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with a view to increasing them to daily flights later this year.

Qatar Airways will operate a Boeing 777-200 on the new route, offering a capacity of 259 seats per flight.

Perth Airport Chief Executive Officer Brad Geatches said Perth Airport was delighted to welcome the first flight of Qatar Airways into Perth Airport, as the airline will offer travellers a greater choice to key international markets.

“A quarter of Perth Airport’s international passengers travel to and from Europe, with the UK being the largest source of international visitors to WA,” Mr Geatches said.

“Qatar Airways will offer a one stop service to these destinations and many more from its hub in Doha, helping these markets continue to grow.

“In addition, Doha will also provide an exciting holiday destination for travellers to a range of culturally diverse locations across the Middle East.”

Named 2011 Airline of the Year at the highly prestigious Skytrax airline awards, Qatar Airways is well known for its high quality service and close attention to its customers needs.

A premier five star airline, Qatar Airways is expected to fulfil demand from the travelling public of Western Australia for quality service.

“We have no doubt that this high calibre airline will prove to be very popular with passengers, offering service to more than 100 destinations across the world from Doha, including Europe, North America, Africa and the Middle East,” Mr Geatches said.

“Perth Airport is currently the fastest growing capital city airport in Australia and the new Qatar Airways services will respond to the continuing international demand for access to and from Western Australia.”
