Iberia and AENA install special clocks to improve punctuality in T4

At the request of Iberia, the Spanish airport and traffic control authority AENA has installed a network of special clocks on aircraft parking aprons with the aim of improving punctuality at the Iberia hub in Terminal 4 of Madrid-Barajas airport.

The digital display clocks indicate real departure times, the time remaining to departure, and any delays.

The aim is to maintain a higher level of time awareness among handling staff, air crews, catering personnel, refuelling operators, etc., in order to improve overall punctuality.

Such systems are in place in only two other airports in the world, in Frankfurt and Dubai. The T4 system in the largest, with clocks at each of the 74 parking spaces, 34 in the main terminal and 42 in the satellite building.

The initiative is one aspect of Iberia’s wide-ranging project to improve operations at its T4 hub, making it one of the best in the world.
