Return of Fallen CH-148 Cyclone Crew + Highway of Heroes Procession | Canadian Forces Base Trenton

Return of Fallen CH-148 Cyclone Crew + Highway of Heroes Procession | Canadian Forces Base TrentonHello everyone! Welcome to this video!

A few days ago, after a somewhat last minute decision, I decided to head up and shoot something I have never done before: a return of fallen Canadian Forces members followed by a Highway of Heroes procession.

We were briefed of a Royal Canadian Air Force C-17 Globemaster III that was enroute from Grottaglie, Italy carrying the crew of the Royal Canadian Air Force CH-148 Cylcone that was unfortunately lost at sea off the coast of Greece from the HMCS Fredericton during a NATO Exercise a week before.

The loss claimed the lives of six crew, with only one of the bodies being found, the other five declared missing and presumed deceased. They are Sub-Lieutenant Abbigail Cowbrough, Captain Brenden Ian MacDonald, Captain Kevin Hagen, Captain Maxime Miron-Morin, Sub-Lieutenant Matthew Pyke and Master Corporal Matthew Cousins.

Before the event started at 1430hrs local time, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Governor General Julie Payette both arrived to pay their respects. The Royal Canadian Air Force C-17 Globemaster showed up shortly after, CFC3919 and held west off the base to burn some fuel before arriving on RWY 06 at 1353hrs to a great crowd of people. They then taxied in where the session took place. Due to the fact that only one of the bodies was found, the rest of the crew were taken as pillows of the fallen’s headdresses into six hearses that made the trip.

We then set up on RCAF Road (the original plan being somewhere on the 401) but then we saw the crowds of people and Quinte West fire with one of their fire truck units and a huge Canadian flag displayed- that was our place for when we viewed the procession. Quiet, heartbreaking and an emotional time. Canada strong.

Enjoy the video everyone! Stay safe!

And for the families and friends of the deceased I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies.

Cheers,
Ernest G.
