FSX – Boeing B-29 Apache USAF

FSX – Boeing B-29 Apache USAF. This is a repaint of the finely modeled Virtavia B-29 Superfortress to represent SN 44-61902, “Apache”, a B-29A-50-BN of the 19th Bombardment Group, 28th Bombardment Squadron, Kadena AB, Okinawa. Apache was flown by 1ST LT E.J. McGill (pilot) and his crew (see description below) from August 1951 until March 1952 during the Korean War. The aircraft was heavily damaged on June 10, 1952 by heavy Triple A and MiG-15 fire while attacking a railroad bridge near Kwakson, North Korea, on what turned out to be its final mission. The fate of that crew on that mission and the aircraft itself is not entirely clear. Crew member 1ST LT Ernest L. Blake was reported to be wounded in action. One accounting indicates that the rest of the crew was unharmed. Another says that one or more crew members may have been killed in action during the Kwakson mission. It is believed that 44-61902 made an emergency landing in Kimpo Air Base, South Korea, where it was deemed to be damaged beyond repair and scrapped. This repaint serves as a tribute to my father, his crew and all of the brave men who bravely served in “The Forgotten War”.
