Assorted Landings Runway 22L, Watching Airplanes Chicago O’Hare International AirportAlthough I have filmed runway 22L arrivals before, they are very rare, usually happening on perhaps 4-6 days out of the year for crosswinds and other coincidences since O’Hare ATC likes to use the standard triple parallel 28C, 27L, 27R approach grouping more for arrivals from the east. Even then it only happened on the day I was there twice for a total of about an hour or so it seemed.
The U.S. Navy Blue Angels practicing for the famous Chicago Air and Water Show on a Heavy Aircraft Friday out over the lakefront made the standard arrival procedure difficult, so to accommodate them
O’Hare had landings on 22L & 22R while that was going on. Runway 22R arrivals used to be common but now with the triple parallel option, not so much. I’ve already filmed numerous arrivals on that
runway.
I couldn’t film every landing on 22L when it was happening, but I did try my best to snag most of the ones I wanted from two different spots along Mannheim Rd. which runs the length of Chicago O’Hare
International Airport on the east side.
