CFS Macro – Kuma-Class Light Cruiser. CFS Version of a WWII ship. Kuma was the lead vessel of the five Kuma-class light cruisers in the Imperial Japanese Navy. She was named after the Kuma River in Kumamoto prefecture, Japan. Other ships of this class were Kiso, Kitakami, Oim, and Tama. Kuma was laid down at Sasebo Naval Arsenal on 29 August 1918, launched on 14 July 1919 and commissioned on 31 August 1920. Kuma saw action in Invasion of the Philippines, Dutch East Indies and New Guinea campaigns. On 11 January 1944, was sank by Royal Navy submarine HMS Tally-Ho (P317) based out of Trincomalee, Ceylon, approximately 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Penang.Kuma’s wreck was discovered in March 2004 by Australian diver & photojournalist Kevin Denlay and a group of divers operating off the research vessel Empress, based out of Singapore.
