FS2004 – Redding KRDD 2014 Scenery. Redding Army Airfield was constructed in 1940 and turned over to the city of Redding for civilian use in 1946. Many of the original “lollipop” hard pad parking areas still remain. In addition to the main terminal and GA ramps, the U.S. Forest Service maintains a sizable fire fighting facility, utilizing Grumman and Convair water bombers. An unused runway on the east side of the field was converted for use as a drag strip in the early 1950’s and is the second oldest National Hot Rod Association strip. South of the drag strip is a go-kart track, constructed partially over one of the old hard pads. All the features mentioned here are included in the scenery.
