Glider Flying 750km Triangle With Surprise Ending

Enjoy flying a declared 750km (466+ mile) triangle state record attempt in a high performance glider (sailplane) over a large part of Utah. The glider, an ASW 27B, took off from Cedar Valley Airport located just 25 miles south of Salt Lake City. Piloted by Bruno Vassel IV, this flight took just under six and a half hours.

I came up 800 feet short of hitting the finish line to achieve one of my goals but I am happy to report that early analysis of the flight produces 4 new Utah state soaring records so even though I didn’t make my main objective it was still a crazy fun and rewarding flight. The reason why I came up 200 feet low on my final glide was that 2 weeks before I changed a setting on my flight computer and forgot to set it back. It was a dumb mistake that cost me big time. For a gps map of the flight please visit: https://www.onlinecontest.org/olc-2.0/…

Please note that I know the area between the mountain at the end of the flight and the airport extremely well and knew there were plenty of landable fields on the way home. It still was cut pretty darn close getting home! 🙂 Hope you enjoy watching as much as I enjoyed making this. 🙂 Bruno
