Lufthansa Technik Sofia inaugurates extended MRO facility
The Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov has recently inaugurated the new extended state-of-the-art MRO facility of the German-Bulgarian Joint Venture company Lufthansa Technik Sofia at Sofia Airport. Along with Prime Minister Borisov, the red ribbon was cut by Mr. Plamen Atanassov, CEO of Bulgarian Airways Group, Dr. Thomas Stueger, Chief Executive of Lufthansa Technik AG and Dr. Ruediger Hoeben-Stoermer, CEO of Lufthansa Technik Sofia.
The inauguration represents the official completion of the successful facility extension which started in 2011. Over the past year the company has added three additional bays to the existent two and has increased the number of employees to more than 600 people. Today, the expanded hangars allow for the servicing of six narrow-body aircraft in parallel and for the completion of 60 heavy checks per year. In 2011 Lufthansa Technik Sofia has been entrusted with the Base and Line maintenance service of the Bulgarian national carrier – Bulgaria Air’s fleet.
The CEO of Lufthansa Technik Sofia Mr, Ruediger Hoeben-Stoermer said: “Thanks to our progress and to our excellent relationship with our partner Bulgarian Airways Group, we were able to go further and expand our facility in Sofia. With the three additional lines for aircraft maintenance, we will be able to respond better and more efficiently to the needs of our customers from Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa. To do that, we have extended the team and have offered additional jobs to more than 250 new employees. We have invested in infrastructure, but we have just as importantly invested in developing our people. We are one team here in Sofia and throughout the Lufthansa Technik Base Maintenance network!”
Lufthansa Technik Sofia is a subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik AG – the world leader in provision of MRO services. The company established a partnership with Bulgarian Airways Group in 2007. For the significant investments in the new 5-Bay facility in Sofia, Lufthansa Technik Sofia has been awarded the titles “Investor Class A” and “Investor of the Year 2011” in Bulgaria. With the new facility extension Lufthansa Technik Sofia has become one of the most important MRO facilities in Europe.
