American Airlines Thanks Officers For Their Longtime Contributions To The Company

The following officers have announced their retirement: 

David Brooks has served as American’s President – Cargo for almost 16 years, and has been with American for almost 30 years. “With American Airlines Cargo, Dave has built one of the most successful companies within a company – with some of the best and most loyal customers due in large part to the customer service and relationships Dave and the Cargo team have built throughout the years,” said Bella Goren, American’s Chief Financial Officer. “Dave is the type of person and colleague who characterizes the spirit of American Airlines, and he has our deepest gratitude and very best wishes in his retirement.” 

Mark DuPont is another veteran of the company. During his 29-year career with American, he has held key leadership positions in Chicago, Orange County, Los Angeles, New York and the Dallas/Fort Worth headquarters office. “Mark leaves quite a legacy at American,” said Craig Kreeger, American’s Senior Vice President – Customer. “His leadership of Airport Services has consistently put American on the leading edge of technology innovation, as he has pushed our teams to solve business problems with technology solutions – always keeping the customer’s best experience his primary objective. Mark’s leadership is sincerely appreciated and, on behalf of our entire team, I wish him the best in his retirement.” 

Susan Garcia has served as American’s Vice President – Information Technology for 10 years, and has been with American for almost 25. “Susan has led some of the most monumental technology initiatives at American over the years,” said Maya Leibman, American’s Chief Information Officer. “She has eagerly taken on the challenges of big, complex technology endeavors, including the very successful Y2K project, as well as the modernization of countless legacy systems. I will personally miss her candor, her strong ability to mentor and motivate, and her overall leadership in the Technology organization. I am very appreciative of all she has done and accomplished over the years.” 

Andrew Watson has served in American’s Technology organization for more than 10 years, including his most recent position as American’s Vice President – Customer Technology. “Andrew led many visible and impactful projects, such as the introduction of Self Service Machines and development of American’s iPhone app,” remarked Leibman. “Andrew is going to be missed not just for these technology innovations but also for his willingness to challenge the status quo, and to engender great loyalty from the people who worked for and with him. I am grateful for his commitment to American, and eager to see him enjoy a well-deserved retirement.” 

In addition, the position of Vice President – Operations Finance and Strategy Planning has been eliminated. Doug Herring, who previously held that position, will be working on special projects through the end of the year. 

AMR Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tom Horton said, “On behalf of the company and all of its stakeholders, I want to thank these officers for the enormous contributions they have made to American Airlines over the years.”
