Stephan Gemkow to leave Lufthansa Executive Board

Stephan Gemkow (52), Member of the Executive Board and CFO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG since 1 June 2006, has asked the Supervisory Board to terminate his tenure prematurely to allow him to pursue individual career opportunities. The Steering Committee has proposed that the Supervisory Board agree to the early termination of Mr. Gemkow’s position on the Executive Board by mutual agreement at its meeting on 7 May 2012 to facilitate his planned move to Haniel. Stephan Gemkow’s term on the Lufthansa Executive Board was scheduled to run up to 31 May 2014. A decision on the appointment of his successor at Lufthansa is to be taken shortly.

Lufthansa Supervisory Board Chairman Jürgen Weber said: “With Stephan Gemkow, Lufthansa is losing an excellent manager, who has given very valuable service in a long career at the airline. I must thank him expressly for that on behalf of the Supervisory Board and indeed the whole of Lufthansa. Lufthansa is today Number One in Europe and one of the soundest airlines financially in the world. We owe that to a competent management team headed by an outstanding CFO and Board Member responsible for the service companies of the Group. That Stephan Gemkow is now to take over as chairman in managing a large group manifests the repute held by the managerial qualities of Lufthansa executives beyond the Group’s confines.“

Stephan Gemkow, born on 23 January 1960, has been a member of the Executive Board since 1 June 2006 with responsibility for Finance and Aviation Services. A business administration graduate, he began his career in 1988 as a management consultant at BDO Deutsche Warentreuhand AG. In 1990, he joined Deutsche Lufthansa AG, working initially in Corporate Organisation and Strategic Corporate Development. He subsequently held diverse management positions in the operational sphere prior to moving to Washington D.C. as Area Sales Manager in 1994. In 1997, he took over as Head of Investor Relations in Cologne and, in 2001, was appointed Senior Vice President Finance. In February 2004, Stephan Gemkow joined the Executive Board of Lufthansa Cargo with
responsibility for Finance and Human Resources.
