Lambert to Reopen Tornado Damaged C Concourse on April 2

Nearly a year after a tornado strike, Lambert-St. Louis International Airport will reopen its C Concourse for the first flights of the day on Monday morning, April 2. The concourse was closed on April 22, 2011 after sustaining heavy roof, window and interior damage from a tornado and related storms.

“We made a commitment to the St. Louis region to restore and reopen the concourse as quickly as possible,” said Lambert Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge. “Our Airport partners, along with countless crews and contractors, have been working tirelessly over the last several months to complete tornado repairs and complete other renovations that were already planned for the Concourse prior to the tornado. The end result will be the experience of a brand new concourse.”
“The repairs and renovations have made the C Concourse look better than ever,” said St. Louis City Mayor Francis Slay. “I’m confident that these repairs and upgrades will make traveling through Lambert International Airport an even more enjoyable experience. I thank Airport officials for their thoughtful provisions while this concourse was closed.”
During the nearly one-year closure, C Concourse airlines operated out of the B and D Concourses. Those concourses will close after final flight operations Sunday night. American Airlines (C6, C8, C10, C12), Frontier Airlines (C15, C23) and Cape Air (C5, C7) will move their operations overnight to their home gates in the newly renovated C Concourse. The TSA will open the checkpoint for the C Concourse at 4 a.m. Monday, April 2.
The previously planned renovations that were completed along with tornado restoration projects include an all-new tiled corridor, brighter ceilings, oval “cloud” lighting, fully renovated restrooms, new signage, digital directory maps and five sets of art glass screens created by local artists.
Passengers will experience a new lineup of stores and restaurants which were also renovated because of the tornado damage. The reopening of the “C” will be the debut for an expanded Starbucks at C2 in addition to a second location at C19. Local brewer Schlafly will debut a new Beer Bar and Grill at C1. Near C8 the new La Tapenade Mediterranean Café is an all-day café, serving morning pastries and coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner sandwiches, flatbread pizzas, entrée salads, snacks and desserts. The very popular casual sit-down restaurant and bar, Chili’s Too, makes its return with a new décor as a part of its renovations.
On the retail side, Brooks Brothers makes its return along with electronics and multi-media retailer, Bookmark Inmotion, which will open at a later date. On the news and gift side, CNBC and a new STL Travel Mart will also be open for sales beginning April 2.
