Wizz Air to move operations from Baneasa to Otopeni as of 25 March

Wizz Air has received official confirmation about the closure of Baneasa airport to commercial aircraft traffic which will result in the need to move operations to Otopeni. Wizz Air is committed to offering Romanian travelers great service for affordable fares but with higher airport charges at the Otopeni airport, passengers will have to pay more for air travel as a result of the closure of Baneasa. Despite this, Wizz Air plans to increase the number of flights by 75% this summer, invest an additional €100 million into the market and create a further 500 jobs, reinforcing Wizz Air’s position as the largest airline in Romania. 

With the move to Otopeni, passengers will enjoy the comfort of a modern, less congested terminal building to enhance their travel experience. With a more flexible operating schedule available at Otopeni, flight times will be more convenient and attractive. Wizz Air will begin twice weekly services to Memmingen (Germany) as of 25 June, with tickets starting as low as 93 RON. This is in addition to the previously announced new routes to Verona (Italy) and Palma de Mallorca (Spain). An announcement of further new destinations from Bucharest is anticipated in the coming weeks. 
All destinations currently served from Baneasa Airport will be served from Otopeni Airport as of 25 March 2012. Wizz Air will proactively contact customers via sms, email, and phone to inform them of the change. 
“Wizz Air is being forced to move to Otopeni and this will result in an increase in prices for passengers, but we are confident that our fares will still be the lowest on the market. With lower fares than the competition, great service, and 22 destinations now served, Wizz Air anticipates continued growth in Bucharest,” said Mike Powell, Chief Financial Officer of Wizz Air.
