THAI confirms Flights Unaffected with Some Maintenance Staff not Working

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) confirms flights are operating normal at Suvarnabhumi Airport and not affected by some THAI maintenance staff not working overtime.

THAI Executive Vice President of Technical Department, Flight Lieutenant Montree Jumrieng , said that some aircraft maintenance staff did not work overtime on the morning of 4 February 2012 as a result of one of THAI’s cost reduction measures that lowered the overtime rate by 17%. The overtime rate reduction is a temporary measure that is part of THAI’s company-wide cost reduction scheme being implemented throughout the company to lower overall operating costs, which in turn allows THAI to remain cost-competitive.

While some maintenance staff did not work during the overtime, THAI was able to operate flights as normal with the maintenance staff who have accepted the lower overtime pay. For the morning and evening peak operations THAI will deploy additional maintenance staff during these periods.

In the meantime,THAI Management will communicate with maintenance staff for better understanding of the situation.
