Night operations at Gaya International Airport suspended due to thefts

GAYA: Night operations at the Gaya International Airport have been suspended following the theft of the lighting systems installed by the Airport Authority of India on nearly half a dozen hillocks in the vicinity.

The now stolen lighting system was installed to maintain vigil and thwart possible sabotage by the ultra left extremist groups and other insurgents. The airport needs extra security in view of its importance as a foreign tourist destination.

Confirming the theft of the lighting system from the hill tops, the Gaya airport director SK Biswas said that the night operations stood suspended due to the thefts.

The airport director complained that he informed the local administration about the theft but no positive response had been received leaving the airport authorities with no option other than suspending the night operations.
