FS2004 SAAF Kittyhawk Mk.IV #8, 11 OTU SAAF 1944 WWII. Textures only. The Curtiss Kittyhawk was used extensively in WWII during the Desert campaign in North Africa by the Commonwealth air forces. Among these Commonwealth air forces was the South African Air Force or SAAF. This Kittyhawk Mk.IV is painted in 11 Operational Training Unit colors based at Waterkloof 1944, although the serial could not be identified from any picture, only a big black “8” is painted on a yellow band on either side of the airplane and under its wings. This aircraft is believed to be one of two aircraft, the other being 5077, which the “sharks’s mouth” paint scheme was applied for an airshow at Waterkloof. This was as a tribute to the campaign in the Western Desert, where these markings were characteristic of Commonwealth Kittyhawks. Requires the original model by K. Malinowski and J. McDaniel.
