As a result of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the decline of passenger traffic by a huge amount, one thing that has been noticed is cargo is on the rise, massively. Huge cargo movements have begun and total capacity has risen by over fifty percent in the last few weeks.
As for Toronto, I will be featuring some movements that have made it here as a result of the virus; this being one of them: Western Global Airlines and their McDonnell Douglas MD-11F’s. The first movement was an arrival a few weeks ago from Anchorage and back bringing in masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) from Shanghai. That flight was WGN3621 on the inbound and outbound that arrived at 0908hrs on RWY 23 and departed at 1823hrs on RWY 23.
The second movement was a weekly movement off to Seoul bringing more PPE on behalf of Air Canada. That flight was also WGN3621 that parked at the Cargo West at Gate 501, on-loaded its cargo and departed on RWY 06L at 1623hrs- one of the heaviest and latest rotation departures I’ve ever seen from there.
