The Aero Dorvron Mini Straton D-7 motorized motor glider might be just what you’re looking for. Aero Dorvron was importing Mini Straton D-7 kits from the Czech Republic, although some of the manufacturing was done in the US.
The Mini Straton D-7 is 5’3″ high and 20 feet long. The aircraft cruises at 50 to 55 mph, has a top speed of 79 mph, climb rate of 550 ft./m and the stall speed of 25 mph. With fuel on board it has a range of approximately 250 miles.
The craft is powered by a Trabant to cylinder two-stroke 24 hp engine. The engine was originally used in an automobile, but has been converted for use in aircraft. It can also be powered by the Rotax and Hirth line of small two-stroke aircraft engines.
Empty weight, depending on engine is 250 pounds gross weight is 170 pounds. It has a wing span of 36 feet, and a wing area of 110 ft.?. The glide ratio is 17 to 1 and the sink rate is just under 200 ft./m.
According to the distributor the Mini Straton D-7 has very docile handling, and features a left-hand side stick with the right hand throttle.
Building times from kit were in the 250/300 hour range. The kit included at pre-fabricated fuselage, tail and wing components as well as a hardware kit. In 1996 aircraft was modified to all aluminum framework, but still fabric covered.
When completed the craft can be disassembled or reassembled in about 30 minutes.
