airberlin: Increased capacity utilization in February 2012

 In February 2012, airberlin, Germany’s second-largest airline company, again increased capacity utilization, reaching 75.6 percent, i.e. an increase by 4.2 percentage points over the corresponding month of the previous year (2011: 71.4 percent). In the context of its efficiency-increasing program “Shape & Size”, airberlin reduced capacity by 9.4 percent in a targeted manner. In monthly comparison, the number of passengers decreased from 2,132,057 to 2,044,035 (-4.1 percent). 



For the first two months of the year, airberlin welcomed a total of 3,945,814 passengers on board, i.e. 7.7 percent less than in the corresponding period of the previous year (2011: 4,277,245 passengers). For the same period, airberlin was able to increase the accumulated fleet capacity utilization rate over the previous year from 71.9 to 75.3 percent, i.e. by +3.4 percentage points. Accumulated capacity decreased by 11.9 percent.
