FSX – Long Island’s Mitchel AFB, NY. Long Island Mitchel AFB was located on Long Island about 20 miles east of Manhattan in the middle of an area known as “The Cradle of Aviation”. Mitchel Field dates from World War One and served to provide a presence in the New York metropolitan area for the U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force for forty-four years. Eventually even the mighty US Air Force was defeated by the Pac Man of progress as it became too hazardous to conduct military operations in close proximity to thousands of homes, businesses, schools, hospitals, etc. Let FSX take you back to those days before it all ended.
