Iberia Maintenance and Avianca have signed an agreement whereby for the next 61 months Iberia will maintain LRU (line replacement unit) parts of the CFM56-5B engines powering the Colombian airline’s Airbus A318s and A319s. LRUs are easily-replaced modular units.
Iberia Maintenance carries out all maintenance of aircraft, engines and airplane parts for the airline’s own aircraft and has about a hundred outside customers around the word. It is the world’s ninth-largest aircraft maintenance company and Spain’s largest by revenues and staff, as well as in repairs, technology, and aircraft modification. In 2011 it inspected and repaired a total of some 200 engines and 66,000 parts.
