AlphaSim Viggen Procedures

Note: The "Loaded" version will be slightly slower and will not handle as responsively as the "Clean" version.  Use the Fuel and Payloads options to set up weight and fuel loading.

Engine Start

Use Ctrl-E (autostart) to start the aircraft.

Normal Takeoff

  1. Make sure fuel is set to fullest tank.
  2. Set flaps to the up position.
  3. Set elevator trim neutral to slightly nose-up.
  4. Apply full power smoothly.
  5. Rotate at 140 KIAS (260 kph), liftoff at 170 (195 kph) KIAS.
  6. Retract gear.

STOL Takeoff

  1. Make sure fuel is set to fullest tank.
  2. Set flaps to the down position.
  3. Set elevator trim neutral to slightly nose-up.
  4. Apply full power smoothly using afterburner.
  5. Rotate at 95 (180 kph)  KIAS, liftoff at 105 (195 kph)  KIAS.
  6. Retract gear.
  7. Trim nose down as needed.
  8. Retract flaps in stages.

Climb

  1. Climb at 250-300 KIAS (460-555 kph).
  2. Set climb power to 90-95% N1.

Cruising

  1. Set cruise power as desired from 70-85% N1.
  2. A normal cruise is around 600 KIAS (1,000 kph).

Normal Landing

  1. Approach the field at about 250 KIAS (460 kph) with plenty of room to slow down.
  2. Extend landing gear on downwind at about 225 KIAS (420 kph).
  3. Deploy flaps in stages, up to 20 degrees on downwind, 30 degrees on base.
  4. Deploy airbrakes as needed.
  5. Don't deploy full flaps until the runway is made.
  6. Normal landing speed is 170 KIAS (195 kph) over the fence, touchdown at about 150 KIAS (280 kph).

Short Field Landing

  1. Approach the field at about 225 KIAS (420 kph), maneuvering as needed.
  2. Extend landing gear on downwind at about 175 KIAS (205 kph).
  3. Deploy flaps in stages, up to 20 degrees on downwind, 30 degrees on base.
  4. Deploy airbrakes as needed.
  5. Don't deploy full flaps until the runway is made.
  6. Normal landing speed is 115 KIAS (215 kph) over the fence, touchdown at about 100 KIAS (185 kph).
  7. Reverse thrust (F2) and apply brakes as required.
