This project adds the booming city of Hawassa, Ethiopia, creates the new international
airport (HALA), moves (and rebuilds) the downtown airport (recoded to HALX), and
includes AI flight plans for the Ethiopian
Airlines service that began April
2016. Tested in both the default FSX: Acceleration and with FTX Global/Vector, accurate coastlines,
lakes, road data, and SRTMGL1 (30m) mesh, as well as corrected landclass are provided based on the latest available satellite imagery.
The Hawassa International Airport was created
using information from the current satellite footprint and the promotional video
from Ethiopian Airports Enterprise (EAE). Although there is still very little
published data on the airport, it is fully functional.
Updates were created or rebuilt in a manner which carefully aligns airport data with current satellite imagery. Scenery was created using Airport Design Editor X v1.70.6042, SBuilderX 3.13, and the FSX Object Placement Tool. Scenery objects were added and modified from stock FSX scenery to resemble as closely as possible the actual airports. The FSX apron lights included are from the set created by Jim Dhaenens. Thanks to Ron Blehm for bringing this part of the world to my attention.
INSTALLATION
1) Extract the "FSX_Hawassa_HALA_CS.zip" file. Place the "FSX_Hawassa_HALA_CS" folder in your "Addon Scenery" folder. Start FSX and add and activate the new folder through the "Settings - Scenery Library - Add Area..." menus.
2) Make sure to disable any other
sceneries that may contain HALA to avoid conflicts.
Make sure there are no "****_ALT.bgl" files in your "Scenery\World\Scenery"
folder that contain "HALA" as well.
3) Altitude corrections - Copy the "HALA_ADEX_CS_ALT.bgl" file from the "Put in Scenery-World-Scenery" folder to the FSX "Scenery\World\Scenery" folder. This corrects the altitude for HALA.
4) FSX users with FTX Global/Vector should go to the "FSX_Hawassa_HALA_CS\scenery" folder and remove the ".OFF" extension from:
CVX_Hawassa_FTXG-V.BGL.OFF
and ADD the ".OFF" extension to
CVX_Hawassa_FSX-default.BGL (The ".OFF" extension MUST be added AFTER "BGL" for the file to deactivate!)
This will ensure the custom roads provided by FTX Global/Vector are not in conflict with the custom roads added to the FSX "only" version.
5) This scenery uses additional objects found in FSX: Acceleration, Steam and P3D. Default FSX "only" users will need to replace two files in order to see "replacement" terminal buildings at HALA.
For default FSX "only":
Go to the "FSX_Hawassa_HALA_CS\scenery\HALA for FSX only"
folder and
copy the files to the "FSX_Hawassa_HALA_CS\scenery" folder and
replace.
(FSX: Acceleration, Steam and P3D users
can copy the files from "FSX_Hawassa_HALA_CS\scenery\HALA for FSX-Acceleration_Steam_P3D"
to the "FSX_Hawassa_HALA_CS\scenery" if they are accidentally overwritten
with the default FSX version.)

6) Copy the "Hawassa Referral Hospital" files from the "FSX_Hawassa_HALA_CS\FSX Startup files" folder to the "Documents\Flight Simulator X Files" folder. Loading these will place you on the Hawassa Referral Hospital helipad.
7) Flight plans can be found in the "FSX_Hawassa_HALA_CS\AI Traffic for HALA" folder in both AIFP and UT2 formats. To enable the traffic, place the "Traffic_HALA_Hawassa.bgl" in "Scenery\World\Scenery" OR copy the "UT2Weekly_hala_hawassa.db" file to the "C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\Flight One Software\Ultimate Traffic 2\Databases" folder and assign the planes through UT2.
