Fairey Battle

These are just for guidance and some will vary with the fuel load.
Remember to visit the Cockpit panel first to ensure the Virtual Cockpit gauges work properly.

STARTING.
Switch the Master switch on and Magnetos off.
Select the Starboard fuel tank.
Prime the engine. ( wait 5 strokes.)
Open the throttle a small amount.
Set Prop to slow.
Mixture to Rich.
Press the start button.( Simulating 'Suck in').
Switch the Magnetos on.
Start engine.
When engine is running:-
Select the Port fuel tank.
Close the Radiator flap.
When Radiator reaches 60° open the Radiator flap.
Set Prop to fast.
Switch the Avionics on.

TAXI.
Check the Port fuel tank is selected.
Set Prop to slow.
Move no faster than a person can run out of your way ~ 5 Kts.

TAKEOFF.
Open the canopy.
Check Mixture is Rich.
Set about +2.5° elevator trim.
Set the Autopilot CLUTCH to IN.
Set the Prop to fast.
Align the aircraft with the runway.
Open the Radiator flap.
Check that flaps are up.
Increase throttle to full.
Lift tail at about 60 mph.
Take off is possible at 80 mph. but Safety speed is 90 mph.

CLIMB.
Set full throttle.
Raise the undercarriage.
When airspeed passes 100 mph. change prop. to slow.
Wait until the airspeed is 140 mph. then
Trim for approximately 146 mph.[ about +2.5° trim.]
Set the Autopilot Control Cock to 'SPIN'.
Close the canopy if required.
Above 3,000 feet the Mixture can be set to Weak.

CRUISE.
Set about +¾ lb. of Boost and Weak mixture.
Trim for about 195 mph. [ about 0.0° ]

APPROACH.
Set Mixture to Rich and Prop. to fast.
Set about +½ lb. of Boost.
Trim for approximately 120 mph.[ about +4.2° trim.]
   - 98 mph. and +¾ lb. if half-flaps used.
Turn the Autopilot Control Cock to 'OUT'

FINALS.
Open the canopy.
Lower the undercarriage.
Check the mixture is Rich.
Select full flaps.
Select fast prop.
Trim for approximately 75 mph. [+6.5° trim.]
   and about +1 lb. of Boost.
SHORT FINALS.
Reduce Boost to -3 lb.

LAND.
At no less than 60 mph
and minimum Boost.
When stopped, raise the flaps.
Open the Radiator flap.
Set prop pitch to slow.
Turn the Autopilot Clutch Lever to 'OUT'

STOPPING ENGINES.
Close the throttle.
Turn off the fuel then the Magnetos.
Turn off the electrics.
