WORLD ENVIRONMENT UPGRADE
FS2004
1. Introduction:
Thank you for downloading
this add-on. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
This add-on will not only change
the color of the skies for all phases of the day but along the way it will add
more realistic lighting to the environment in Flight Simulator 2004.
These textures were meant
to be released with the payware add-on I was working on during the summer (Ultimate
Night Environment Pro) but they were never finished because of time
constraints. I thought about releasing this add-on to those who bought Ultimate
Night Environment Pro but then I thought everyone should enjoy these new
textures :-)
Let’s take a look at the changes you can expect to
see:
Take a look at these two screenshots below with the
default textures.
This is supposed to be a warm summer day:
To me that doesn’t look a
like a warm summer day. In fact it looks like a cold day in the spring.
Now let’s take a look at these two screenshots
below. They were taken at the same time but with the new textures and lighting:
Notice how the lighting has
changed. Now it looks like a warm summer day!
Summer days will look sunny and warm, while winter
days will look darker and cold:
You can also expect to see the environment in
Flight Simulator look more “alive” and realistic thanks to the new lighting and
sky textures:
Part 2. Installation:
Backup: If
you have 3rd party sky textures I recommend you back them up before
installing
these
textures. Go to your main FS9/Texture
folder and organize all the files by name. Now backup all the textures that
start with “sky” starting with “sky_afternoon_0.bmp” and ending with “sky_sunset_9.bmp”.
Make sure you put them in a safe place.
Install: Open
the zip file called “New textures.zip” and extract
all the contents to your
main
FS9/Texture folder. When prompted to
overwrite, choose “Yes to all”
THAT’S IT! START FLIGHT SIMULATOR
AND ENJOY THE NEW TEXTURES AND LIGHTING
FAQ (Frequently
Asked Questions)
How come the sun doesn’t look like in
the screenshots?
I must say that the sun you see in the screenshots is an add-on I
downloaded called “Modified Sun V2” done by Eitan
Daniel and Vincent van Veen.
You can find it in the search section of Flightsim.
The file is called "sunmodv2.zip”.
How come the city lights don’t look
like in the screenshots?
Again, that is another add-on. That’s the payware add-on I worked on
during the summer and it’s called Ultimate
Night Environment Pro. It’s available now at
simmarket.com
Do these new textures and lighting
affect framerates?
Nope, you will still get the same framerates
you are getting now.
How do I uninstall these textures?
If you backed up the previous textures all you have to do is restore
them. If you didn’t, open the zip file called “default textures.zip”
and extract all the contents to your
main
FS9/Texture folder. When prompted to
overwrite, choose “Yes to all”
Are these textures compatible with
FS2002?
These textures have only been tested with FS2004. There’s a chance
they might also work with FS2002. So try them at your own risk. Also, don’t
forget to backup the original sky textures.
What city is the one shown in the
screenshots?
The city you see in the screenshots is
