STARTING set:-
Main Tank cocks open, Nacelle cocks closed.
Undercarriage indicator switch on. Test warning horn.
Throttle slightly open. Mixture rich.
Propeller high RPM. Cowling Gills open.
Ignition on and Start engine.
Run as slowly as possible for 30 secs.
Then warm up at 1,000 rpm.
Check oil pressure rises.
Check 120 °C. CHT; 15 °C. Oil
Check full engine speed of 2800 RPM. at 8¼ lb. Boost.[47” Hg.]
Reduce to +6 lb.[42” Hg.] of boost and check mag. drop of less than 50 RPM.
NB:
Minimum rpm. for normal running is 1,000 rpm.
Oil Pressure is 80 lb./sq. in. normal ~ 65 lb. Min.
CHT is 250 ~ 270 degs.
TAXYING:-
Brake pressure is 100 lb./sq. in. min. [450 lb. supply].
Switch on Pressure Head heater.
Keep engine rpm. above 1,000.
TAKEOFF:-
+ 20°of flap. Auto-pilot off. Gills ⅓ open.
+3.0 deg. of elevator trim.
Run up to 2,000 rpm. release brakes and increase to full throttle.
Set 8¼lb / 2,900 rpm. to 500 ft.
Minimum Take Off speed is 85 mph.
Safety speed is 115 mph. [ 125 mph. without flaps ]
CLIMB:-
Raise flaps at 400 ~ 500 ft.
Set + 6 lb. / 2,500 rpm.
Climb at 130 mph.
Close Gills.
CRUISE:-
Zero trim at 150 ~ 160 mph. 2,400 rpm.
APPROACH:-
150 mph. with flaps up, reduce to 130 mph. before lowering flaps.
[For
Beam Approach. Select 15°of
flap, -1 ~ -3 lb. of boost / 2,000 ~ 2,400 rpm. and
130 mph.]
Before Landing:-
Auto-pilot off, Brake pressure 100 psi. Gills closed.
Reduce speed to 120 mph. Lower undercarriage.
Mixture to rich [normal],propeller controls to fast.
Switch Nacelle tanks on. Flaps fully down.
FINALS:-
85 mph. 1,200 rpm.
[For Beam Approach. Reduce to 100 mph. Flaps to 40° at Outer Marker and lower fully at Inner Marker.]
FLARE:-
60 ~ 65 mph. and Minimum rpm.
AFTER LANDING:-
Raise flaps and open the cowl Gills.
Run engine at 800 ~900 rpm. Until CHT is below 210 degs:
Stop engine at minimum throttle using slow-run cut-outs.
Turn off all electrics and fuel cocks.
