Limitations and Cautions

Engine Start

Use Ctrl-E (autostart) to start the aircraft.

Takeoff

  1. Make sure fuel is set to fullest tank (main fuselage tank).
  2. Set flaps to the up position.
  3. Set all trim controls neutral.
  4. Apply full power smoothly - afterburners as desired.
  5. Rotate at 130 KIAS, liftoff at 160 KIAS.

Climb (Maximum Power)

Descent

A normal descent is conducted at 0.8 Mach and idle thrust.  Higher speeds and power settings may be used.  Spoilers may be used if a more rapid descent is desired.

Landing (40,000 lbs.)

  1. Approach the field at about 250 KIAS with plenty of room to slow down.
  2. Use airbrakes as required.
  3. Extend landing gear on downwind at about 225 KIAS.
  4. Extend tailhook for carrier landing.
  5. Extend slats on base leg (position 1).
  6. Extend flaps on final (position 2) when runway is made.
  7. Approach speed is 156 KIAS.
  8. Make touchdown at about 140 KIAS.
