Pilot's Handling Notes for a Savoia Marchetti S.M.79bis with Alfa Romeo 128/RC18 engines

****************************************************************************************

The SM79bis torpedo bomber made its debut in 1944. The three 860hp Alfa Romeo 128/RC18 (Bristol Pegasus) engines have automated mixture controls, and manually applied carb heat controls. Superchargers give rated power up to 1800 metres. Each engine can briefly deliver 930hp for take off or war emergency below 1800 metres. This engine has constant speed airscrews which can be feathered.

AUTOMIXTURE - This engine has Automixture in real life. Turn automixture ON in the FS9 realism screen before flight.

This aircraft is loaded by default with 5,448lbs of AVGAS. The spoiler key must be used to load and then drop the torpedo and its associated drag. The weight of the torpedo is present by default. Cruise yields below are with/without external torpedo. When torpedo is released weight must be removed manually from FS9 payload menu. For post war passenger/cargo operations retain payload and do not display torpedo. Cruise yield will be intermediate.

Design cruise altitude is 4000 metres, but more economical cruising is availabe at 5000 metres whan no passengers are aboard.

CAUTION - Very weak brakes. Landing roll longer than take off roll.
