SimWesterly, Level 1
By David J Crandall
This is a remake of a popular helicopter game called SimCopter by Maxis. It was of my favorite games to fly. You are a helicopter pilot working for different cities and earning money to advance in your career. As your money grew you could buy better and faster helicopters and you need them because the amount of missions grew as well. The cities would start off mild and grew to chaos with it’s citizens becoming out of control, soon riots and looting would start and you will have a hard time keeping up with all the calls. The game was very addictive and you could find yourself playing it for hours loosing all trace of time. Maxis are no longer making this game however you can still find it at www.amazon.com for under $5.00 dollars. I have purchased this game and it will run on Windows XP, however there are some bugs in the program, one of the bugs seem to be with saving the game during the game. The game would crash after playing for some time, however if you save the game after each mission is completed it works fine.
I have made this version of the game with FSX using the sound files from SimCopter. The game is made up of different mission in one mission. You must complete all missions to successfully complete the mission. I cannot duplicate all of SimCopter features, such as gaining income for buying additional equipment and helicopter, or for gaining enough funds to advance to the next city. So I had to create a different way to advance in your career. You are given money for completing each mission which will show up when you end of the mission. This you can keep a personal record of if you want to write it down, but it does not affect the game. When you complete all of the missions assigned to you, you will be given a Certificate of Completion when you return to the hanger. It is located inside the hanger. A code number will be given to you to unlock the next version of the game, which will be password protected in a zip file, so you will need to write this down and keep it in a safe place.
This version is in the city of Westerly Rhode Island, and is a small city. You will be starting of in the Robinson R22, the performance, price, and low operating cost have made the two-seat Robinson R22 Beta II among the most popular helicopters in the world. It's also a popular training helicopter for the same reasons. A fun aircraft to fly, the R22 has one of the best overall records of reliability for all helicopters.
Prior to starting mission;
1. Open your FSX scenery library. If you have any commercial landclass scenery (ie North America Landclass by SceneryTech) you will need to unselect it. This mission required the default FSX landclass. Using other landclass may place objects inside of buildings or other autogen scenery.
2. Open Flight Simulator and go into your Display Setting and set the Road, Ships and Leisure traffic to 25 %, Set Autogen to no less then Normal, set your other setting to what ever make your system run smoothly.
3. Load Mission/Pilot for Hire /SimWesterly. You will be running on the heliport in front of a hanger. You should hear radio sound followed by a call from Central Dispatch.

I am an Emergency Medical Technician with my local volunteer ambulance in Connecticut. I enjoy making rescue missions using the helicopter. This mission is a remake of Maxis SimCopter and is to be used for personal entertainment only. All sound files belong to Maxis and no profit will be made from them. If a representative of Maxis should download this file, please except this as dedication to the excellent emergency flight simulation program that you have created and I hope that this will encourage you to make a new version of SimCopter.
