Pilot's Handling Notes for a Savoia Marchetti S.73 with Alfa Romeo 126/RC10 engines

The three Alfa Romeo 126 (late model Bristol Pegasus) engines have automated mixture controls, and manually applied carb heat controls. Weak superchargers deliver 800hp below 1000 metres. Each engine can briefly deliver 850hp for take off or go around at sea level.

 

RESTRAIN RPM < 2300 at all times - These are military engines running on airline grade fuel.

 

WARNING Allowing > 2300 RPM with airline grade fuel may result in engine failure.

 

AUTOMIXTURE - This engine has Automixture in real life. Turn automixture ON in the FS9 realism  screen before flight.

 

This aircraft is loaded by default with 4,480lbs of AVGAS to allow the longest routes flown in real life to be flown in FS9.

 

Design cruise altitude is 3000 metres but operation at 4000 metres is permitted for up to 30 minutes per flight to avoid weather or mountains.

 

AVOID - Vno = 310 KmIAS
