PANEL FEATURES:

What can I say, it's an accurate layout of a later model 707 including four choices of night time panel floodlighting.

To try and create more of a feeling of being there, this panel actually includes 3 different views, selected using SHIFT+NUMPAD 8(normal), 5(landing) or 2(pilot).

Also included with this panel are the usual things like; low oil pressure lights, leading edge flap indicators, FS2K2 GPS, working Flight Director, landing gear rumble sounds as the aircraft accelerates along the runway, increased wind noise whilst the landing gear is down, the sound of the trim wheel rattling as it moves, visual warnings for disconnection of the autopilot, the GPWS and below glideslope have flashing warnings, First Officer confirmation of gear up and gear down, altitude callout from 500 feet down to 10 feet, "minimums" callout when reaching decision height - which can be set using the RA etc......

At night time, although the gauges will automatically be lit, the panel will appear with a shade of that nasty MS night glow.  So feel free to use one the four levels of realistic panel floodlighting effects.

The overhead panel is pretty simple, though it does include fuel gauges, yaw damper and rudder coordination switches, seat-belts and no smoking switch, air conditioning and lighting switches.

GLARESHIELD - FLIGHT DIRECTOR/AUTOPILOT

On the left of the glareshield is an enunciator that lights when TOGA is selected.

Next is the Flight Director switch,  This will switch on automatically if the AP is armed, though needs to be manually switched on if flying without the AP but using the FD in conjunction with the Mode selector.

The FD Mode Selector is pretty obvious in so much as the functions available, though you must remember that when changing from one mode to another, you must select OFF first i.e to go from heading mode to ILS/APPR, select OFF then APPR.

The altitude hold switch will command the pitch bar on the ADI to maintain altitude unless the Pitch knob has been used.  This can be used in conjunction with setting an altitude in the flight level gauge using the appropriate knob on the altimeter.

In the middle of the glareshield is the TOGA switch.

On the right is mach/airspeed selector to be used together with the auto throttle switch to the right and a knob for setting the mach speed.

Please note that when using the panel with the accompanying air file and aircraft.cfg, the wing leveller is not automatically enabled.  To use this require ctrl+v.

On the bottom of the centre pillar is a mouse click area to bring up the overhead panel, or you can use the icon on the simicons panel.

LEFT SIDE:

Mostly obvious gauges here though I'll mention a few.

GROUND PROXIMITY WARNING SYSTEM

The below glideslope warning will flash if 1) more than one dot below the glideslope AND 2) altitude is less than 1000 feet AGL. The light is disabled below 50 feet AGL. The GPWS warning will flash if the aircraft is 1) descending 2) below 1000 feet AGL with 3) the gear up. It extinguishes as soon as the gear is lowered or you initiate a climb. This light does not work when over mountains. Excessive sink rate below 2500 will also trigger the light.

AIRSPEED

This one is typical of those found in later 707's and contains mouse click areas down the right side of the gauge so that each speedbug can be adjusted.  If being flown using airspeed hold with the AT in armed mode (doesn't require the AP to be armed) use the left knob on the ASI to select speed.

RMI

Includes flags when the nav source is out of range

SIMICONS PANEL

This is toggled using the switch below the DME 2 gauge and contains buttons for; overhead panel, kneeboard, ATC, GPS, Com/Xpdr and the map

FLIGHT DIRECTOR ENUNCIATORS

Select a mode on the FD panel and the relevant light comes on.  A flashing decision height DH appears above the ADI.

Also above the altimeter is an AP disengaged light and altitude light.  The latter will light when approaching or departing the altitude displayed in the Flight Level gauge.

ADI

This includes flight director bars as well as fast/slow, localizer and glideslope indication and fast/slow indication based on the set speed on the ASI.

HSI

Pretty much as you'd expect and includes distance to NAV 1 and course selected.  Rotating knobs for selecting heading and course are at the bottom.

ALTIMETER

Pressure is changed using the left knob and flight level using the right one.

VSI

Yep, a VSI.

CLOCK/TIMER

The left knob changes hours and the right one minutes.  The centre of the right one will set the seconds to zero for use as a timer, though you'll need to make a mental not of the minutes to use it effectively.

PNEUMATIC BRAKE PRESSURE HANDLE

Yes this acts as a parking brake.

RADAR ALTIMETER

Use the knob to set decision height - note it moves a bit slowly.

FLIGHT LEVEL

Set using the knob on the altimeter.

ADF

Yes, it will point to the tuned ADF frequency.

CENTRE:

Below the glareshield are four panel flooding switches.  Please see the FS2K2 issues page about these.

ENGINE GAUGES

Thrust reverser lights above the main engine gauges.  Not a lot else to say other than that it is unwise to try and fly using EPR as this seems to have been modeled by MS just as badly in 2K2 as it was in 2K.

LANDING GEAR LIGHTS

These have the active mouse click spot for the landing gear.

FLAP INDICATOR

These are marked in the same way as the early 707 panels.  Although later 707 models used different flap settings, very few airlines opted for updated flap gauges.  The actual flap settings are; up, 14, 17, 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 - though 50 would rarely be used in practice except on very short or slippery runways.

The positioning of the needles will be dictated by the airfile for the aircraft you are using.

CENTRE PEDESTAL:.

RADIO

Nav 1 / 2 and ADF appear on either side of the throttles with Com and xpdr being brought into view using the avionic icon on the simicons panel.

SPOILER HANDLE

This has a mouse click area at the top of the handle arming and on the lever arm for extending and retracting.

FLAP HANDLE

This has mouse click areas for lowering and raising the flaps.
