Starting Engines

Mixture………………….Normal

Carb Heat……………….Cold (summer

                                         Hot(winter)

Magnetos……………….On

Starter…………………..On,  Left then Right.

 

While warming up

Check temperatures and pressures.

Check hydraulics by lowering flaps

Check vacuum gauge for operation.

Open throttle to take off boost then check

RPM drop when switching magnetos on. (Drop should not exceed 90 )

 

Taxiing

Brakes………Check operation.

Flaps………..Up

 

 

 

 

 

 

Take Off

Trim…………….Elevator trim one half turn back

                             from fully forward.

Rudder trim……..Neutral.

Mixture…………Rich

Fuel……………..Check contents, fuel cocks on.

Flaps……………Up. For a short run 1 degree of flap

                             may be used.

Carb  Heat………Cold except under icing conditions.

 

There is a tendency for the aircraft to swing to the right

which can be checked with throttles or rudder.

 

Do not try to get tail up too early. The aircraft should be eased off at not less than 65 m.p.h IAS.

Before climbing increase speed to 100 m.p.h IAS.

 

Climb

Undercarriage…………Up

Max climb speed………110m.p.h

Flaps up if used for short take off run.

Mixture………………..Rich

 

Cruise

Trim for 120 m.p.h for ideal cruise speed.

Check fuel and all gauges normal.

 

 

 

 

 

Landing

Reduce speed to 120 if cruising above this speed.

Undercarriage…………….Down

Mixture……………………Rich

Flaps………………………Down

Carb Heat………………….Cold

 

Recommended approach speed is 80-85 m.ph with flaps

down or 95 m.p.h with flaps up.

 

After Landing

Flaps ………………Up before taxiing.

Shutdown…………..Let engines idle for a minute then

                                  turn fuel cocks to off position.

Main Batt…………..Off.

Mixture…………….Normal

Oil Dilution (not simulated)….the oil dilution period for

                                                 this aircraft is 3 minutes.
