ORLANDO EXECUTIVE AIRPORT

TURN ON WORD WRAP

This is scenery for Orlando Executive Airport, Orlando, Florida. It is a departure from my usual flow of Southern California airports because I was looking to experiment with some new techniques in scenery design and as I had already done the main terminal building for a friend I decided to continue through to complete the airport scenery.

AIRPORT BACKGROUND
Orlando Executive Airport is one of three airports serving Orlando, Florida. It lies only 3miles from Orlando city center and 7 miles north of busy Orlando International Airport (actually lying underneath the approach path). The airport serves the very important central Florida business and leisure community, but is principally a general aviation and corporate aviation airport. The airport itself is fully equipped with an FAA air traffic control tower and navaids include a full capability ILS, VOR and Loc NDB. Traffic levels at the airport are brisk with 217,905 aircraft operations handled in 2004.

HISTORY
The airport was established in 1928 as Orlando Municipal Airport, and served as the main airport in the region. Pan Am began commercial services the same year commencing services to Cuba and Puerto Rico. In 1940 the airport was handed over to the US Army Corps for service to the World War II effort and was renamed Orlando Air Base, returning back to commercial service in 1946. The first terminal building was built in 1951 and the airport was renamed Herndon Airport ten years later. Development of McCoy AFB to the south meant by 1968 commercial traffic was eventually relocated to the future main airport for Orlando (eventually to become the current Orlando International). The current name "Orlando Executive Airport" was adopted in 1982. In 1999 the airport main building was rebuilt to the current distinctive terminal which became fully operational in 2001. A testiment to the importance of the airport to corporate aviation is that The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) hold their annual convention at the airport.

THE SCENERY

I have used a few new experimental ideas for this scenery.

1) You will see many new static aircraft populating the scenery as they do in real life. These static are sourced from a new library of static aircraft I have been working on (developed in GMAX) and which I will eventually release to the designing community for them to populate the airports of the world (like my jetways).

2) There are numerous GA hangars all over the airport. These are also from a new library which I have developed and these will be released eventually to the designers. They are not the actual hangars at the airport because I did not have pics of these but they are good substitutes...

3) I have included a photoreal ground for the airport for the using the MS FS2004 terrain method for the first time. This I will use more often for smaller sceneries as it gives a decent effect from the air.

4) Lastly, due to time constraints I have simply used AFCAD2 for the ground taxiway/runway scenery. I think the scenery is still very rich and looks half decent!

5) AFCAD NOTE: THE INCLUDED AFCAD AF2XXX FILE IS ONLY INTENDED FOR GROUND SCENERY DEVELOPMENT. AFCAD AUTHORS PLEASE USE THIS FILE TO ADJUST THE PARKING ASSIGNMENTS. THE CURRENT ONES IN THIS AF2XXX FILE ARE NOT FULLY FUNCTIONAL.

I hope you like the scenery!

INSTALLATION:
As normal, you have unzipped the file ORL2005.zip. The unzipped file should have created the following directories,

\ORL2005 with two subdirectories
		\scenery
		\texture
\GA Library with two subdirectories
		\scenery
		\texture
\world scenery texture

Move the "ORL2005" folder intact to the "FS2004"\Addon scenery\ (or whatever other folder you store your sceneries in) so that it creates a "ORL2005" folder there (warning: leave the folder intact when pasting, do not copy contents of the folder themselves).

Move the "GA Library" folder intact to the "FS2004"\Addon scenery\ (or whatever other folder you store your sceneries in) so that it creates a "GA Library" folder there (warning: leave the folder intact when pasting, do not copy contents of the folder themselves).

Open the folder "\world scenery texture" and move all the files to the "FS2004"\Scenery\world\texture folder. These are the photoreal texture and autogen files.

***Important: please see below for installation of Gerris Grey's tree library

Start FS2004 and thru the scenery library add the scenery ORL2005, and then GA Library and you are all set!

Ensure that the ORL2005 folder is on a scenery level higher (i.e. lower scenery layer number) than the default Western North America, and any terrain mesh add-on scenery folders. Also ensure that the GA Library is on a scenery level higher than the ORL2005 scenery.

Remember the default Western North America scenery has to be active at the same time as this scenery.

Also ensure that within the Scenery Library the vehicles library are active.

There are no Exclude and Flatten switches to be installed in the scenery.cfg file.

As usual the scenery is set-up on different scenery density settings gradually increasing in complexity as you increase the slider to 'very dense', at which point all the scenery is displayed.

If you do not like all the static aircraft simply remove the KORLSTAT.bgl and KORLSTAT_Exclude.bgl files.

TREES (credits: Gerrish Grey)
My first recommendation would be for you to install Gerrish Gray's excellent tree macros (trees_V3.zip). This package is required for this scenery or you will get errors. They are available at AVSIM and flightsim.com. Once you have downloaded this package, unzip and,

- CUT and PASTE the file trees_0.bgl to the folder FS2004\Scenery\BASE\Scenery
- CUT and PASTE all the *.bmp files to the main FS2004\texture folder.
