FS2004 MV challenge - ATC deviations

Note: Consult these flight instructions in-flight (press F10) or print them out first. This flight assumes familiarity with FS2004 (FS9), its GPS, and the default B737 (see the FS2004 Learning Center).

Time: about 2 hours 30 min. Length: about 950 nm. Load: 60% fuel, 100% passengers.

About the flight: This flight simulates an actual flight with real ATC-imposed deviations from the filed flight plan. The actual flight used a B757 of United Airlines, but the default FS2004 B737 can be used here, since it has similar flight characteristics. If you wish, you may load a United B757 after loading this flight.

The flight starts at Orlando, Florida, and lands at Chicago O'Hare, Illinois.

Since FS2004's ATC can't mimic the exact timing of an actual flight, you will NOT use FS2004's ATC. Instead, you should follow the instructions in this file.

The instructions ask you to monitor your position (usually the distance from a VOR/DME radio beacon, either DME1 or DME2 shown at bottom left of the default B737-400 panel). You should execute turns, climbs, etc. at precise positions, as if ATC told you exactly there what to do.

Weather: The weather has gentle winds from the West and some clouds.

Airport and Navaid information:
- Orlando: elevation 92', runway 36R, VOR/DME ORL 112.2
- En route navaids: VOR VQQ 117.9, DME NZC 114.1, VOR/DME AMG 115.1, VOR/DME AHN 109.6, VOR VXV 116.4, VOR/DME FLM 117.0, VOR/DME OKK 113.5, VOR/DME OXI 115.6
- Chicago O'Hare: elevation 652', runway 27L, ILS 111.1 (272°), VOR/DME ORD 113.9, VOR/DME OBK 113.0

How to read the instructions below: Observe the red position information. When you reach that position, "execute the blue ATC instruction", with the help for FS2004 shown in black.

Use the black time (shown like :15, as on the B737 clock) for guidance only; these are the times during the actual flight. If you are on time, you have closely simulated the actual flight.

Abbreviations:
Takeoff: The flight begins with the default B737-400 on the runway at Orlando. You may load a B757 in United Airlines colors, if you have one, to better simulate the actual flight. Everything is ready for departure, and the flight plan is loaded. The clock is set to the actual runway departure time on Oct. 20, 2003 at 14:12 EDT (Orlando time) = 13:12 CDT (Chicago time).
Climb:
Cruise:
Descent:
Approach:

Landing:
On the ground: Have you arrived at the gate at 15:43 (local time), like the actual flight?

Press ESC to end the flight.
