Extract from Do27-A4 Flight Manual  (GAF T.O. 1L-Do27-1)

 

Note: Points not relevant for SIM OPS have been omitted.

 

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE

 

1.                  Parking bake - SET

2.                  Master switch – ON

3.                  Battery voltage – CHECK

4.                  Fuel selector (on avionic subpanel) - OPEN

 

STARTING ENGINE

 

1.                  Auxiliary fuel pump – ON, CKECK GREEN LIGHT

2.                  Fuel pressure  0.6 – 1.1 kp/cm³ – CHECK

3.                  Propeller pitch – FULL FINE ( full forward)

4.                  Mixture lever – FULL LEAN ( full backwards)

5.                  Ingnition switch –  M1

6.                  Throttle – OPEN ( appr. 1/10 )

7.                  Starter button (on subpanel) – PRESS

 

When engine fires:

 

8.                  Mixture lever – FULL RICH ( full forward)

9.                  Ingnition switch –  M1+M2

10.              Throttle  - ADVANCE TO 1200-1500 RPM

11.              Oilpressure – CHECK

12.              Auxiliary fuel pump – OFF

 

ENGINE GROUND OPERATIONS

 

Parking brake RELEASED! Operate engine with propeller lever at FULL FINE. Maintain engine speed between 1200-1500 RPM for best cooling. Avoid prolonged idling to prevent spark plugs fouling. Do not operate engine above 2200 RPM.

 

WARM UP

 

1.                  Radios and radio compass switches – ON

2.                  Fuel quantity gage – CHECK FUEL QUANTITY           

3.                  Check engine idle RPM – MIN 800 RPM

 

BEFORE TAXIING

 

1.   Taxi clearance – RECEIVE

2.   Altimeter and clock – SET

3.   Parking brake – RELEASE

 

TAXIING

 

  1. Maintain engine speed between 1200-1500 RPM for best cooling.
  2. Throttle ADVANCE ( max. 2200 RPM ) and CHECK BRAKES.

 

ENGINE RUNUP

 

  1. Brakes – HOLD
  2. Parking brake – SET
  3. Throttle – 2200 RPM
  4.  Mangneto check – PERFORM
    1. Ingnition switch –  M1, DROP max. 150 RPM – CHECK
    2. Ingnition switch –  M1+M2, 2200 RPM – CHECK
    3. Ingnition switch –  M2, DROP max. 150 RPM – CHECK
    4. Max. difference M1 to M2: 30 RPM – CHECK
    5. Ingnition switch –  M1+M2, 2200 RPM – CHECK
  5. Throttle – 1200-1500 RPM
  6. Parking brake – RELEASE

 

BEFORE TAKEOFF

 

  1. Brakes – HOLD
  2. Wing flap lever – 15°
  3. Elevator trim – SET (neutral recommended)
  4. Auxiliary fuel pump – ON, CKECK GREEN LIGHT
  5. Takeoff clearance – RECEIVE

 

NORMAL TAKEOFF

 

  1. Brakes – APPLY
  2. Throttle – SMOOTHLY FULL POWER
  3. Control stick – EASE FORWARD
  4. Brakes – RELEASE
  5. Check Manifold Pressure MIN 0.95 ATA
  6. Check RPM advancing beyond 3300 RPM
  7. Limit engine speed to 3400 RPM by REDUCING PROP CONTROL LEVER
  8. At 60-70 KIAS pull back Control stick.
  9. Climb with 75-85 KIAS.

 

SHORT FIELD TAKEOFF

 

  1. Brakes – APPLY
  2. Throttle – SMOOTHLY FULL POWER
  3. Control stick – EASE FORWARD
  4. Brakes – RELEASE
  5. Check Manifold Pressure MIN 0.95 ATA
  6. Check RPM advancing beyond 3300 RPM
  7. Limit engine speed to 3400 RPM by REDUCING PROP CONTROL LEVER
  8. At 40-50 KIAS simulaneously pull back control stick and wing flaplever to 35°.
  9. After obstacle clearance and with safe climbing speed RETRACT FLAPS TO 15°.
  10. Proceed as normal takeoff.

 

CLIMB

 

After save altitude and safe climbing speed is reached:

  1. Propeller control lever – REDUCE TO 3000 RPM
  2. Wing flap lever – RETRACT 0° (min. 200 ft AGL, 70 KIAS)
  3. Elevator trim – AS REQUIRED
  4. Auxiliary fuel pump – OFF
  5. Manifold Pressure -  SET 0.90 ATA

 

CRUISE

 

  1. Propeller control lever – REDUCE TO 2600-2700 RPM
  2. Manifold Pressure – SET TO 0.55 - 0.80 ATA
  3. Elevator trim for level flight– AS REQUIRED

 

DESCENT

 

  1. Propeller control lever – SET TO 2500 RPM
  2. Manifold Pressure – SET TO 0.50 ATA
  3. Airspeed – 130 KIAS
  4. Elevator trim for descent– AS REQUIRED

 

BEFORE LANDING

 

Entry and Downwind Leg

 

  1. Propeller control lever – SET TO 3000 RPM
  2. Airspeed – 100 KIAS
  3. Auxiliary fuel pump – ON, CKECK GREEN LIGHT
  4. Parking brake – CHECK OFF

 

Key Point

 

  1. Throttle – IDLE
  2. Airspeed – 75 KIAS
  3. Wing flap lever – SET 15°
  4. Elevator trim – AS REQUIRED

 

Final

 

  1. Airspeed – 70 KIAS
  2. Wing flap lever – SET 35° (or as required)
  3. Elevator trim – AS REQUIRED
  4. Airspeed – 60-65 KIAS

 

LANDING

 

Normal Landing

 

  1. Flare out and touch down in three-point attitude with touchdown speed 40-45 KIAS.
  2. Hold control stick back and apply brakes as necessary.

 

Short Fileld Landing

 

  1. Airspeed – 70 KIAS
  2. Wing flap lever – SET 15° (or as required)
  3. Airspeed – 60 KIAS
  4. Wing flap lever – SET 35°
  5. Elevator trim – AS REQUIRED
  6. Wing flap lever – SET 35°
  7. When landing is assured, wing flap lever – SET 45°
  8. Elevator trim – 5 DOTS BACKWARDS (nose high)
  9. Press control stick forward to maintain Airspeed – 47 KIAS
  10. By approaching the touch down point apply power to control/limit sinkrate.
  11. Touch down airspeed – 35-40 KIAS

 

AFTER LANDING

 

1.   Auxiliary fuel pump – OFF

2.   Wing flap lever – SET 0°

  1. Propeller control lever – FULL FINE (full forward)
  2. Elevator trim – NEUTRAL

 

ENGINE SHUTDOWN

 

  1. Wheel brakes – HOLD, SET PARKING BRAKE
  2. Throttle – IDLE
  3. Avionics – OFF (if applies)
  4. Micture lever – IDLE CUT OFF (full backwards)
  5. Ignition switch – OFF
  6. Fuel selector (on avionic subpanel) - CLOSE
  7. All elctrical switches - OFF
  8. Master switch - OFF
