Version 1 for FS2004/FS9/FS CoF of  Denver International Airport (KDEN)

Scenery by

Harald Krause

If you had previous versions of my scenery  I hope you enjoyed them in spite of some frame rate problems.

This version is completely new rebuilt from scratch in GMAX.

In this version I have added much more detail than previous versions with new jet ways, new terminals trying to match the airports design as closely as feasible and striving to make it as frame rate friendly as possible. Extra care was taken to remove polygons that aren’t visible so FS does not have to render them.  Night lighting has been improved by using Flight Simulators built-in darkening features rather than creating night textures. This effect will make terminals seem darker but actually makes them look more realistic.

I have added three jet way animations which are frequency controlled. More on this later.

The new 16000’ foot runway has also been added with proper taxiway designations unfortunately it does not have ILS due to limitations of AFCAD at this time.

You will notice some of the stock DIA scenery is still present. These may or may not be updated in the future. Everything that I felt was unrealistic or poorly done has been replaced. As time permits I will be adding more animations. It has taken me 11 months to get to this stage and I felt it was time for a release. I could build and tweak for another 2 or three months and still not be 100% finished but I hope you will enjoy this scenery as much as I enjoyed making it.

Installation:

Copy the entire DIA2k4v1 directory from wherever you unzipped this zip file to X:\<FS Root >\Addon Scenery

Where “X: is the drive letter where FS2004 is installed.

FS Root directory is normally \Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9

Adding Scenery to FS2004

From the opening menu in FS2004 (if you do not have a default flight) select Settings | Scenery Library |Add Area| then point to DIA2k4v1 directory under Addon Scenery.

If you have a default flight select File | End Flight and perform the above procedure.

Advanced Method:

Copy this section to your scenery.cfg file

[Area.0XX]
Title= DIA2k4v1
Local=Addon Scenery\DIA2k4v1
Remote=
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=XX

Replacing XX with the next sequential scenery number

NOTE: You WILL have to restart Flight Simulator after adding this scenery

Detail Levels

Based on scenery complexity settings.

Animation

I have added 3 jet ways that are animated and frequency activated.

Gate B50 United is setup for a 737-400 frequency 112.00

Gate B36 United is setup for a 777 frequency 112.10.

Gate B27 United is setup for a 757 frequency 112.20.

To view the animation change you frequency on NAV2 then hit Shift S which should put in spot plane view.

I hope to update more jet ways with animation as time permits.

Aircraft used for AFCAD gate placement.

B50 default 737 or PMDG 737

B36  Meljet 777

B27  Mike Stone 757

AFCAD2

This airport comes with an AFCAD2 file which is very accurate based on real world

Airlines and local airport knowledge from a former DIA employee.

If you have not downloaded or created an AFCAD for KDEN nothing further needs to done. If you have an existing AF2_KDEN.bgl in your <FS Root>\Addon Scenery\Scenery folder please delete or rename the file as it will conflict with the one enclosed with this archive. If you choose the rename the file use something like

AF2_KDEN.bgl.org as FS reads ALL files ending in bgl. The AFCAD file with this archive is also compatible with the default scenery.

Gate radius assignments are based on the documentation from ProjectAI. If you want your AI to start and taxi to the proper terminal your aircraft model radii may need to be adjusted to these recommendations. A chart with aircraft radii used is included.

Runaway Setup.

All runways are open at this time.

AI Traffic

Frame Rates can be adversely affected by AI. All testing was done with Ultimate Traffic set to 90% Frames locked at 20 and no major hit was detected this on a P4 2.4 512 Mb RAM and TI 4200 128.

Airport Information

You can get taxiway diagrams of Denver International at http://www.aopa.org/asf/taxi/ and terminal maps at http://www.flydenver.com/maps/inside/index.asp. I would have loved to include them but they are copy protected.
