Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Version 1.1

This version contains the same 58 downtown buildings including the Calgary Tower and over 40 of the largest buildings, as of September, 2006. There are no new buildings in this version but several scenery (terrain) files have been added which replace Microsoft's default scenery for the Calgary area. This allows all the downtown buildings to be moved to their proper location rather than sitting in the default Bow River which looked more like a long lake. This version should work with Ultimate Terrain and other add on scenery files such as Holger Sandmann's bcmesh9e. Other enhancements include some VFR scenery based on the VFR Terminal Area Chart for Calgary, a more realistic Bow River, Elbow River, Glenmore Reservoir, Chestermere Lake and Ghost Lake.

Extract this zip file into your FS9 Addon scenery root folder.
Start FS and go to Settings -> Scenery library -> Add new area.

Then find the "Calgary" folder from your Addon scenery folder
now add the folder to Scenery library list. Restart FS!

NOTE FOR ALL USERS:
For those using default terrain, Holger Sandmann's mesh of SW Alberta, FSfreeware Canada CDED or similar type scenery, please use all the files provided.

NOTE FOR ULTIMATE TERRAIN USERS (or similar commercial software):
You should already have good terrain files, so Use only the files that contain buildings:
 - calgary.bgl
 - calgary2.bgl
 - calgary3.bgl

Remove or rename the rest of the files. calgary_vfr.bgl may be useful depending on how much VFR data they added/enhanced.

Notes about the VFR File:
=========================
The calgary_vfr.bgl file includes a couple of gas plants (Twin Stacks and Jumpingpound) and the PetroCan gas station near 22x and Hwy 1. I've never used Ultimate Terrain, so I don't know if this software includes decent quality 3D images. I was surpised to find that both Twin Stacks and Jumpingpound are both in the default scenery although they blend in with the background so much they were very hard to see even when low level flying. I never noticed them at all until I added my own scenery objects. Pictures of Twin Stacks show distinctive red and white stripped layers and there are two stacks. Microsoft has one stack which is sticking out of a building and is a similar colour as the building which, as I said earlier, blends into the scenery.

Notes about Coordinates:
========================
I've found some minor discrepancies between Google Earth, the official Nav Canada VFR chart and Canada Road System for FS2004 V2. I moved rivers and buildings around slightly so to accommodate either terrain or roads so that the rivers didn't run up along the sides of hills or roads didn't get covered by water. We are talking about 50-100 meters which is really not all that bad at all. For normal flying at even 3300 feet, or about 1000 meters above the ground, most of this is not really noticeable.

Thanks to all the people who took the time to email me and with suggestions for improvements. I've accommodated most and hope to move on soon and add more buildings.

Happy Simming,
