Where
"Up close and personal"
means something!

Description:

This "job" is going to require several pilots making multiple trips over a period of a month or so.  An outfitting company is building 3 cabins at Fox Outpost 2 and they are going to be needing lumber and other building supplies flown in.  The problem is, the weather in the Ketchikan Area has been lousy for the past two weeks and is not expected to improve any time soon.  Heavy rain, visibility 3 mi. or less, and cloud bases at 2000' have been typical.  There's only one way in to Fox Outpost 2 in this kind of weather, and it's up to you to find it!  Field elevation at Fox Outpost 2 is about 1500' and with cloud bases at 2000', obviously there's little margin for error.  We are going to need experienced (or not ;) ) pilots who know the area, and who can fly heavy equipment capable of hauling the materials the contractor needs.

If you need help finding your way in (and yes, this is considered cheating, but that's OK), you can pick up your FSNavigator flight plan package here.  There are also FS2K2 flight (.flt) and weather (.wx) files included in the package for a demo flight using the default C-182.  I know, a Cessna?, YUK!, but everybody has it, and you can select a different aircraft after the flight loads, if you like.  You can load the FS2K2 flight followed by the FSNavigator flight plan and the Skylane will auto-fly the route, showing you the way in to Fox Outpost 2.

Your Mission:

You will fly from the Bush Flying Unlimited base, BFU North, to Ketchikan Intl. (PAKT) to pick up a load of lumber.  You may also load at Ketchikan Harbor if you like, although it will be more difficult to load from the dock. (but what the h :) ll, you don't have to help!)  Fly directly to Fox Outpost 2 and deliver the load.  Plan on a stop at Fox Camp on your way out and possibly on your next trip back in.  Personnel and supplies are constantly moving between these two camps.  From there, you may return to BFU North and shutdown, or return to Ketchikan for another load.

You may collect your "pay" after the flight is flown and you have posted a flight report and maybe a screenshot or two.

The default C-182 completes a turn near Fox Camp
while using FSNavigator to auto-fly the route.

Your Aircraft:

You may fly the aircraft of your choice.  The aircraft must be large and able to haul a load.  Caravan, Beaver, Otter, C-207, Porter, to name a few, or, a suitable rotary wing aircraft may also be used.  While it is possible to land a wheeled aircraft on the beach at Fox Outpost 2, the "runway", short and narrow, is likely to cause problems for heavily loaded aircraft.  For this reason,an amphibious aircraft would be preferable, allowing you to load and unload on dry land while still allowing for a water landing at Fox Outpost 2.

There will also be a limited number of flights where smaller aircraft may be used, ferrying personnel and smaller last minute items that may be needed at the job site.

Additional Notes and Precautions:

Watch your altitude closely when you are up near Fox Outpost 2.  There is little more than 300' between the cloud base and the ledge that you need to hop over to get into the lake.  It's easy to climb too high and wind up in the clouds.  You will encounter turbulence when you get up near the cloud base, you must ensure that you are at maneuvering speed or below when the turbulence starts bouncing you around, or you will break your airplane.
