Watching Airplanes from the T2 Ramp Tower | Planespotting Chicago O’Hare International AirportThis is something free-style, something very special… Coming to you from Chicago O’Hare Orchard Field’s original air traffic control tower, now used as the Terminal 2 ramp tower for the Echo and Foxtrot Concourses. Back when Chicago Midway was the big game in town, jets were still rising to prominence and ORD was in its infancy, this was where ORD’s air traffic commands came from. There is an observation deck down a level lower in front of the ramp tower but the views are all through a chain-link fence and it’s not quite as easy for filming so most of the video here is from up in the old tower cab. It’s nowhere near as busy as it usually is but I hope you will at least enjoy the action I was able to capture for you here.

Some of you have suggested I try some ad-lib commentary during filming and so I did in this video since the filming style seemed to allow for it, including a heavy dosage of my favorite Matt Cochran-isms. After all, Matt is the master of planespotting commentary and ad-libbery. Is that a word? I guess it is now!

We begin with a waltz of the tugs around 0600 hours and Delta Air Lines’ Flight #16 Boeing 767-300ER cargo flight from ORD to DTW which is a bit of a novelty since we normally never see the DAL 767 at ORD these days. They did used to fly them here in the winter on flights from CDG a few years back.
