Airbus A340-600 vs. Dash-8 – Good bye AIR BERLINIf you ask me for the perfect visual metaphor to describe the current situation in the aviation branch in Germany. An Airbus A330 of Air Berlin arriving at its homebase in Düsseldorf and a small Dash8 lining up on the runway while the huge mothership of Lufthansa is just waiting behind to take over the tiny Dash 8 airplane of Air Berlin.

It` s a scene I filmed in February and as we all know by now it` s exactly what happened. Lufthansa bought Air Berlin two days ago and they will take over a major part of the former Air Berlin fleet, including the small Dash8`s. Most planes will end up operating for Eurowings, which is part of the Lufthans group.

I also included my favorite Air Berlin clips as a farewell. Air Berlin was frequently featured in my videos cause they were based at my home airport. Quite sad to see them go but it` s also an opportunity to get a higher diversity of companies at Düsseldorf. Condor and Eurowings already released its long haul schedule for DUS for the winter season and I am pretty sure we can expect much more.
