FS2004 – F-4 Phantom II. Virtavia’s F-4 Phantom II . The The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is a tandem two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic jet interceptor fighter/fighter-bomber originally developed for the United States Navy by McDonnell Aircraft. It first entered service in 1960 with the U.S. Navy. Proving highly adaptable, it was also adopted by the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Air Force, and by the mid-1960s had become a major part of their respective air wings. This aircraft was flown by Col. Joseph Kittinger of the famed 555TFS “ Triple Nickel “ and is currently on display at Kittinger Park at the Orlando Executive Airport. Kittinger served in Viatnam as a fighter pilot . But he is most remembered by his 1960 world record skydive and the first man to solo the Atlantic in a Hot air balloon. Col. Joseph is enshrined in The National Aviation Hall Of Fame.
