Photoreal scenery for Grimes Airfield (Golden Age Air Museum)

Christopher G. Clawson has just released the freeware FSX scenery of Grimes Airfield (8N1), Bethel, Pennsylvania (PA), USA.

Grimes Airfield (8N1) is located in the beautiful countryside of Berks County, PA, USA. Built in 1946 by a local businessman, Walter Grimes, the airfield has been in constant operation since its opening. When it opened, Grimes Airport was a show piece of small airports. Aircraft from Piper Cubs to Douglas DC-3s regularly operated from the airfield.

The Golden Age Air Museum was established in 1997. Its mission is to entertain visitors and educate them about the early days of aviation. Museum displays include full size operational aircraft and automobiles, as well as displays of artifacts from the Golden Age of aviation. Craftsmen are continually working on restoring new additions for the collection.

SCENERY AND AI AIRPLANES

This scenery add-on includes:

– Detailed runway and airfield
– Detailed hangars, airplanes, and vehicles
– Seasonal photoreal textures of the surrounding countryside

Also included are ten flyable AI airplanes adapted from available freeware aircraft models. I repainted them to appear as they are at the Golden Age Air Museum. These planes take to the air throughout the day on Saturdays and Sundays. My thanks go to the developers of each of these models. They were all kind enough to give permission for their use. I hope this add-on does credit to their great designs.

Each of the airplanes is installed into its own folder and has had its identifying information changed so as not to conflict with any previously installed version of the model. Some models have been “tweaked” slightly to perform better as AI aircraft. Each can also be flown in FSX. Also, I could not find models for some of the airplanes. For these, I repainted an airplane that closely resembles the model.

To select one of these as your current airplane, go the “Select Aircraft” screen in FSX and select “CGC GAAM” from the “Publisher” drop-down list. Click on “Details” to see interesting facts about the selected airplane.
