NSU and Embraer Aircraft Holdings Partner to Raise Aviation Safety Awareness

aviation_newsNova Southeastern University (NSU) and Fort Lauderdale-based Embraer Aircraft Holdings have partnered to strengthen the relationship between the manufacturer and academia, in their efforts to improve human factors research in aviation.

Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier this year, the partnership will include a series of seminars and research projects in human factors, which will be offered through NSU’s Institute for the Study of Human Services, Health and Justice.

Human factors can include problem solving skills, decision-making, communication, attention, stress management, and physical condition.

NSU and Embraer will write and submit grant proposals to the Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration that will focus on Threat-and-Error Management (TEM), Fatigue-Risk Management and a Flight Risk Analysis Tool (FRAT), all aimed at advancing human factors studies and disseminate the resulting data throughout the industry. They will conduct research in human factors and performance, including such major safety issues as fatigue, mental health and the environment. In addition, the initiative will increase the awareness of these issues by and among pilots, aviation safety professionals, and aviation students as well as the general public in a series of future events.
