After a building phase of only eight months, MTU Maintenance Hannover’s new logistics center was ceremonially opened this Wednesday. The storage building for spare parts has a floor space of 7,500 square meters and features the most advanced logistic processes. Before the opening of the new logistics center, the parts were stored externally. With the new building, the transportation route could be reduced from 15 km to only 75 meters. With this move, MTU Maintenance will significantly save costs, optimize its internal processes and is able to strengthen its position among the international competition.
“Our new logistics center is the result of an excellent partnership and cooperation between the city of Langenhagen, Hannover Airport and MTU Maintenance Hannover,” said Holger Sindemann, Managing Director at MTU Maintenance Hannover. “We are very proud that we could stick to our cost and time planning and were able to open the building at record speed.” MTU Maintenance Hannover is the centerpiece of the MTU Maintenance group, the world’s largest independent maintenance provider for commercial aircraft engines, and specialist for medium-sized and large aircraft engines. Only recently, MTU Maintenance has successfully completed the test cell correlation for the world’s largest aircraft engine, the GE90. The company is now one of the few providers worldwide with the full repair capability for this engine type.
“The order situation for MTU Maintenance is excellent,” Sindemann added. “We are confident that our customers will feel the improvements and will remain faithful to us in the fu-ture as well. Also, we will be expanding significantly.”
