Vueling announces new Barcelona-Santander route starting in June and throughout the year

Vueling, the new generation airline, has today announced the new Barcelona-Santander route which will be operational throughout the year with four weekly flights. For the first time, the airline will connect the capital of the Cantabria region with Barcelona-El Prat airport

The new route schedule is intended to make it easier for travellers to spend a weekend in either of the two cities. During the winter season, from late October 2012, schedules will suit business travellers. In total, the route will offer around 40,000 seats this year.

The new Barcelona-Santander route will operate from Friday, June 22nd, four days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday) with the following schedule:

SDR-BCN 19:30 20:40
BCN- SDR 17:45 19:00

This new route is a further step to improve the connectivity of Vueling’s Barcelona hub. In a first phase, the Santander-Barcelona route will connect passengers to destinations in the Balearic Islands such as Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca. Connecting flights have an intermediate stop at Barcelona-El Prat Airport and passengers can check-in their baggage in the city of origin and pick it up at the final destination.

Javier Suárez, Vueling’s Director of route planning and management, said: “This was one of the most sought-after tourist destinations for our clients and an opportunity for people from Santander to access a wide range of European cities through our hub in Barcelona.”

Santander is a city with growing tourism demand owing to its beautiful urban beaches, landscapes and to its wide range of gastronomy, culture and leisure. In addition, it is the door to Cantabria, a community that has a wide range of rural and mountain tourism, and villages of great cultural interest including Comillas, San Vicente de la Barquera, Puente Viesgo, Santillana del Mar and Castro Urdiales. In 2011, Santander airport carried 1.116.398 passengers.

At the same time, from Santander it will be easier and more convenient to visit the city of Barcelona and enjoy all its attractions.

Tickets are already on sale at competitive prices from all Vueling’s sales channels: www.vueling.com; tour operators and travel agencies; iPhone and Android apps and its mobile portal m.vueling.com.
