A major event in Southeast Asia has turned out a great success for MTU Aero Engines: Germany’s leading engine manufacturer will benefit from contracts awarded this week at the Singapore Airshow, which represent business worth some 450 million euros for MTU. The orders are for the following engine types: the PurePower® PW1100G-JM for the new Airbus A320neo, the V2500 for standard Airbus A320 family aircraft, and the GP7000 for the Airbus A380, the world’s biggest jetliner.
The largest contracts were received from India and Qatar: Indian carrier GoAir signed a firm order for 144 PW1100G-JM engines; Qatar Airways awarded a contract covering the supply of 40 GP7000 turbofans for the A380s it has on order. MTU CEO Egon Behle was pleased to see new orders coming in also for 58 V2500 engines: “The con-tract wins clearly show that the V2500, which is currently the most important commer-cial engine for MTU, has the potential to remain successful well into the future.” The PW1100G-JM, Behle went on to say, had once again proved that it offers airlines com-pelling reasons to opt for it; its innovative technology, he added, marked a new chapter in the history of engines.
