raffic Figures: 1,712,010 passengers were handled at Zurich Airport during January 2012, a gain of 1.3% versus January 2011.

Traffic Figures

O&D or local passengers (originating or departing from Zurich) increased by 1.1% to 1,081,308 compared to previous January. Transfer passengers increased by 1.8% to 623,002 in January. The transfer rate which was at 36.4% last January is currently at 36.5%.

The current low cost carrier market share is at 9.5%, showing a passenger increase of 4.9% versus previous year.

Air traffic movements (ATM’s) decreased by 3.5% to 21,597 in January versus previous year. The decrease divides into -1.8% for airlines and -12.1% for general aviation.

The average passenger per movement figure (airline passengers only) currently is at 93.3 (90.4 previous year). The average seat load factor saw an increase of 1.6 percentage points to 67.0%.

Commercial Activities

Total turnover (net sales to consumers) during January was CHF 38.2m (+3.0% versus previous year). Turnover per departing passenger in January was CHF 44.6, which is 1.7 percent higher than last year.
