Airservices welcomes Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner to Australia

Airservices controllers at Sydney Tower cleared the first Boeing 787 ‘Dreamliner’ to land in Australia on 15 November, 2011.

Call-signed ‘Boeing 001’, the 787, the very first 787 prototype to fly, touched down on Sydney’s Runway 34L at 11am having flown in from Auckland after a three-day visit with Air New Zealand.

The historic occasion was marked with a special welcome radio transmission by the tower controller during the landing clearance. The 787’s first officer acknowledged and appreciated Airservices ‘official welcome’.

The Dreamliner was then the centrepiece of Qantas’s 91st anniversary celebrations on 16 November before flying to Melbourne the following day.
