NAVCANatm flight data technology extends to the Dutch Caribbean
Air traffic control facilities in the Dutch Caribbean will soon be making use of NAVCANatm technology to manage critical flight data online for their day-to-day operations.
The Netherlands Antilles Air Traffic Control Inc. (NAATC) has announced that two towers, Curaçao and Bonaire, and their Air Traffic Control Centre situated in the Curaçao Flight Information Region, will implement NAVCANatm technology.
Two of the products, NAVCANstrips and NAVCANsitu, are part of the NAVCANsuite family of tower-automation products designed to provide fast and reliable access to critical airport, tower and terminal air traffic control information.
The third product NAVCANlink provides an “at-a-glance” summary of core operational information, supporting collaborative decision-making amongst airport, terminal and other external operations staff.
“These new products will provide significant benefits to our air traffic control operations,” said Mrs. Micilia Albertus-Verboom, Director General of the Netherland-Antilles Air Traffic Control. “They will improve our tower-to-tower coordination and provide access to important flight information across our system.”
The Curacao FIR, because of its strategic location and the many flights that transit the area between North and South America, is considered one of the most important in the Caribbean region. The NAATC coordinates with the adjacent Flight Information Regions of Venezuela, Colombia, Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

NAVCANstrips allows air traffic controllers to manage flight data online, eliminating the need for traditional paper flight strips and providing immediate access to key information.
NAVCANsitu is an innovative radar display combining fused track data with on-screen surveillance data to produce a seamless display of real-time enroute, terminal and ground surveillance coverage from ground to air, helping to simplify the controller’s workload.
Fully integrated with these NAVCANsuite applications, NAVCANlink supports collaboration by providing users, such as airport operations staff and air carrier operations managers, with a near-real-time view of an airport’s radar, traffic, weather, airfield lighting and navaid status, and a record and playback function for analysis.
NAVCANatm technology is in operation at more than 70 Canadian sites, and has been adopted internationally by the United Kingdom, Denmark, Australia and Dubai.
