– FS2004 Scenery–Hellas Scenery Project LGSA
FS2004 Scenery–Hellas Scenery Project (HSP) LGSA Chania (Souda) Ioannis Daskalogiannis AB. This scenery includes improvements to Chania LGSA airport with custom buildings and objects. “HSP Base scenery” required (HSPBASE1.ZIP) – “HSP Mesh terrain” recommended (HSPMESH1.ZIP, etc.). Chania airport in Greece is a joint civil – military airport serving Chania city, second in size in Crete island and perhaps its most traditional and picturesque. Souda Hellenic Air Force base and a NATO base are operating full time from the airport making it one of Greece’s busiest in military traffic of all types. “Ioannis Daskalogiannis” civil airport on the north western part serves all civilian flights which, especially during the summer time, bring the apron capacity up to limits. The apron recently got expanded to the east. Chania LGSA has only VOR DME approaches for runways 11 and 29 and a long runway with military standby runways on each side (the taxiways). The airport is positioned on an elevated terrain peninsula extending north from mainland Crete and to its north it has even higher terrain rising steeply. Especially on the approach from the east (for runway 29) you can observe the terrain rising steeply from sea level up to almost the runway threshold. Chania airport is often used as a diversion for nearby Iraklion LGIR when the North strong gusty crosswinds forbid landing at Iraklion and then the passengers are transferred by bus to their final destination.
